Liv is a compassionate and grounded therapist based in Abingdon, Virginia. She believes that understanding why we are the way we are is just as important as learning how to move forward. In her sessions, you will have a space to explore your experiences, relationships, and challenges without judgment. Liv supports each person as a whole individual, helping you feel seen, understood, and empowered to make meaningful change.
Her experience includes supporting people through trauma, working with children and young adults, substance use treatment, intensive family therapy, and co-response work with first responders. She believes that “grit determines that life challenges will neither defeat nor define us; grace gives kindness to ourselves even when it’s hard.” Liv works alongside clients to build resilience, self-compassion, and lasting growth at a pace that feels right for them.
Carrie Burke, LPC
Carrie Burke, LPC is a warm and supportive therapist based in Wise, Virginia, with convenient evening availability. She enjoys working with clients of all ages, with a special passion for helping children and families. Carrie believes that therapy works best when clients feel safe, understood, and supported, and she strives to create a welcoming and compassionate space where growth and healing can happen at a comfortable pace.
With extensive experience in clinical coordination, supervision, and direct therapy, Carrie brings a depth of knowledge and a hands-on approach to her work. She is trained in Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and has spent years helping children and families build stronger relationships, develop coping skills, and navigate life’s challenges. John is based in Abingdon and Wise and brings a grounded, thoughtful approach to therapy. With experience in leadership and professional roles outside the therapy room, he understands the real-world pressures individuals and families face and works collaboratively to support meaningful change.
He works with individuals, couples, and families on concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, and life transitions. John’s approach is evidence-based, IFS-informed, and tailored to each client’s needs, goals, and values, creating a supportive and approachable space for growth and healing.
Sydni Smith, MSW
Sydni Smith, MSW, provides therapy services in our Pennington and Wise offices and has experience working with a wide range of ages, from young children as early as age three through older adults. Sydni has provided both individual and group therapy, with much of her clinical experience focused on supporting individuals experiencing anxiety and depression.
Sydni is passionate about helping clients build effective coping strategies, gain a clearer understanding of their thoughts, and feel supported in a nonjudgmental, comfortable environment. She believes strongly in the message that “it’s okay to not be okay,” and strives to create a space where clients feel safe being their authentic selves. Outside of the therapy room, Sydni enjoys fitness, going to concerts, and spending time outdoors, interests that reflect her appreciation for balance, connection, and overall well-being.

Barbara has over 20 years of experience providing therapy to children, teens, and adults. She has extensive experience in working with trauma recovery with children, ages 3 – 17 and specializes in Play Therapy. She has experience in treating PTSD, ADHD, anxiety disorders, depression and various other mental health issues and looks forward to offering you a healing space.

Utilizing evening availability, Adam makes counseling accessible for teens and working adults, balancing careers, relationships, and personal growth.
